PEACE-Air kick-off meeting in Banbridge

The PEACE-Air partnership has officially begun its work with a successful in-person kick-off meeting hosted by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council at Banbridge Civic Offices. This first gathering of all participating organisations brought together partners from across Northern Ireland and Ireland and marked an important starting point for the project’s collaborative efforts. The meeting introduced each organisation involved, provided an overview of the project’s structure and expectations, and ensured that all partners shared a common understanding of how the work will be delivered over the coming months.
Throughout the meeting, ERNACT, as Project Leader, guided partners through key elements of project implementation, responding to questions and offering clarity on procedures, governance and delivery requirements. Particular attention was given to the project’s legal framework, including the signing of the Partnership Agreement, which will formalise cooperation and outline the responsibilities of each organisation. This was complemented by a detailed review of the project plan, covering activities, timelines, deliverables and the coordination required across the work packages. Partners also discussed the establishment of the project’s Steering Group and other supporting teams, which will provide direction, facilitate decision-making and maintain oversight as the project progresses.
The agenda addressed core operational components such as project and financial reporting, communication requirements and internal coordination mechanisms. These discussions helped ensure that all partners understand the processes and standards expected throughout the project’s lifetime, particularly in relation to transparent reporting and consistent communication. The meeting also included an important review of potential risks and issues that could affect delivery, especially those linked to timelines and key milestones. Partners agreed initial mitigation and contingency measures to support effective and timely implementation.
As a formal kick-off event, the meeting was designed to achieve three overarching aims: to set the foundations for a strong cooperation project, to build a shared understanding of roles, responsibilities and the wider workplan, and to confirm the immediate steps required to launch the first phase of activities. By the close of the session, partners had established a clear path forward, with structures, expectations and early actions agreed. The meeting laid the groundwork for a constructive and well-coordinated partnership. With governance arrangements emerging, responsibilities confirmed and early tasks outlined, the PEACE-Air project moves into its next stage with a solid base from which to advance its cross-border work on improving air quality and protecting public health.
