€6.5 million PEACE-Air project launches January 2026

The PEACE-Air (Partnership for Evidence and Action on Clean Air) project will be officially launched later this month at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Donegal, marking the start of a major cross-border initiative to address air quality and its impacts on health across the island of Ireland.
Supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), the €6.5 million project brings together academic institutions, public authorities and sectoral partners from both jurisdictions. The initiative aims to strengthen cooperation on clean air policy through shared evidence, coordinated action and increased public awareness.
The launch event will bring together project partners, policymakers and community representatives to outline the project’s objectives and planned activities. These include the development of an all-island strategy and action plan for clean air, enhanced air quality monitoring and modelling, and targeted research to support evidence-based policy making.
Speakers will highlight the importance of cross-border collaboration in tackling air pollution and protecting public health.
PEACE-Air will run over the coming 3 years, delivering practical tools, high-quality data and professional development opportunities to support improved air quality management. The project will also place a strong emphasis on public engagement, recognising air pollution as a shared challenge requiring coordinated action across the island.
Further details on the project and its launch will be made available following the event.
