Get Involved: PEACE-Air Launches Community Survey

This week, PEACE-Air opened registration for two closely linked activities in Donegal and Derry/Londonderry that will help shape the project’s evidence base.
:A community survey on home heating and household behaviours, and a complementary indoor air quality monitoring campaign.
The survey is open to everyone in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, with recruitment focused on the Derry City and Strabane District and Donegal County council areas. The monitoring campaign will take place in homes in Letterkenny and Derry/Londonderry.
PEACE-Air is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
The community survey is led by the University of Galway and Queen’s University Belfast, with contributions from members of the project advisory group, including the local authorities and external partners. It will gather data on home heating, cooking, cleaning, and ventilation behaviours in households across both jurisdictions. The project is aiming for a minimum of 300 respondents to build a clearer picture of the socio-economic and home-heating characteristics shaping indoor air quality today.
A smaller group of households will be invited to take part in indoor air quality monitoring. Around 30 homes, recruited primarily from survey participants, will host sensors measuring particulate matter (PM2.5) and carbon dioxide (CO2), alongside a short period of passive sampling for additional pollutants. Monitoring will run across both the heating and non-heating season to capture how indoor air quality shifts with the seasons.
Getting involved is simple.
Visit the new Surveys section of the PEACE-Air website to register your interest!
A member of the research team covering your area will then get in touch with you with full information on the studies before you are asked to take part. With these activities now open for registration, PEACE-Air takes an important step from evidence-gathering in principle to evidence-gathering in people’s own homes, and looks forward to welcoming the first households on board in the weeks ahead.”
